All About Adrien - a brief biography
- Birthdate: April 14th, 1973, on a Saturday.
- Born in: the borough of Queens, New York City, New York, U.S.A
- Height: 6' 1 + 1/2" (1.83 meters)
- Weight: approximately 165-170lbs, (77- 80 kilograms) - tightly toned and fit. Dropped to 130lbs for The Pianist but has since built up again.
- Hair: dark brown/black. Has a slight natural wave or kink which is often styled straighter.
- Eyes: olive green with a narrow inner ring of hazel-brown around the pupils.
- Father: Elliot Brody, teacher, artist, Polish-Jewish descent.
- Mother: Sylvia Plachy, (pronounced 'plah-hee') reknowned photographer/photojournalist, worked for many years for The Village Voice publication, New York; has published several books of her photographs; used Adrien as a subject in his childhood. Ms. Plachy was born and raised in Hungary, escaping to the USA during her youth when her country was taken over by the Communist regime. Jewish ancestry, Catholic upbringing.

- Family nickname: in one of her books his mother Sylvia mentions that her pet-name for Adrien is Michi, which could be a Hungarian term of affection or possibly a contraction of Michael.

- Adrien's high school: Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art & the Performing Arts, New York, NY graduating in 1991. This is the same school immortalized in the "Fame" movie and TV series.
- Earliest interest and professional pursuit: magician. As a child, Adrien became skilled as a magician and performed his tricks at children's parties for a paid fee. You can see him showing off his skills in his first movie role in "Home At Last."

- Piano skills: besides playing keyboards today in his own music, Adrien had some informal experience playing the piano as a child, but to play the part of composer-pianist Wladyslaw Szpilman, in The Pianist, Adrien learned by ear to play certain segments of some Chopin pieces, so that he could be filmed convincingly fingering the keys. A professional pianist plays what you actually hear when watching the film, as these are highly difficult works to play at concert standard, but Adrien was genuinely playing them on the set, as filmed.

- Personal life: straight, unmarried, no children; has been dating Spanish/Hungarian actress Elsa Pataky since early 2006. Although Adrien prefers to have the public's focus remain on his work rather than his personal life, and strives to stay out of the tabloids, some history at least is known - his past loves have included actress Monet Mazur (40 Days and 40 Nights, Monster-In-Law, Torque), and beautiful New York DJ Sky Nellor.

- Cars - Adrien is an auto enthusiast. As a youth he bought cheap, brokendown cars and souped them up, then took part in street races around his neighborhood, before selling them off. Still loves autos today, and has a small collection, including a black Corvette, seen in MTV's Punk'd. Cars are his passion. Drove his own stunts in the taxi-cab scene in King Kong. Also has several motorcycles.
- Serious motorcycle accident - In his late teens/ early twenties, Adrien had a life-threatening accident when a car made a left turn in front of him and his motorcycle T-boned the vehicle, sending him flying into a feet-first landing on the ground of the intersection beyond. Adrien sustained serious injuries and recovery lasted a year. Adrien did not ride motorcycles again for ten years, until taking them up again recently.
- Three broken noses - Adrien has broken his magnificent nose three times! The second time was during the filming of a scene in Summer of Sam. The third time was while snowboarding in Park City, Utah, during the 2002 Sundance film festival which he was attending for the promotion of Love the Hard Way. His nose aquired a slight lean to the left, but doesn't actually look much different from how it was before these fractures.
- Hey nice bod! - Maintains a nice physique by working out with basic moves and weightlifting, also some yoga. Although Adrien appears to be the 'gangly' type when clothed, and was starved thin for The Pianist, he has otherwise actually always had a strong, tightly muscular body with the classic broad shoulders, six-pack, good pectorals and biceps. (Check out Summer of Sam from 1999, and The Jacket from 2005!) Although still a sometime smoker of cigarettes, has a tendency toward healthful eating habits, often spotted shopping at Wholefoods.
- Club kid - Loves to go out clubbing, although with increased fame this is harder to do these days.
- The Kiss 'thing': a memorable moment that occurred in tandem with his Best Actor Academy Award in 2003 was the big, swoony kiss he planted on Halle Berry when she presented his Oscar to him. He then went on to spoof the kiss with Jay Leno, Queen Latifah on the MTV awards, and he gave a jokey little peck to Charlize Theron the following year when he presented her with her Best Actress award. However, Adrien has been plagued ever since by total strangers kissing him on the mouth! He says he even caught a nasty cold after one of these unsolicited liplocks. So a little advice - if you run into Adrien and want to impress him with your grace, charm and originality, maybe don't try to kiss him! The poor guy must be a little tired of the theme by now...!
- One per person - although Adrien is generally agreeable to signing his autograph when asked, he often applies a strict "only one each" rule if people have multiple items they want him to sign, particularly if time is limited and if they seem to be professional celebrity-autograph hunters who intend to sell the autographs; so if you're a fan and get to meet him, take along just one item for him to sign. Don't forget your camera! Fans report a friendly and amenable Adrien when politely approached at TV appearances and other work-related occasions and opportunities.
